GarageHunt Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how GarageHunt ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the GarageHunt mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide directly

Account information: your name, email address, and password (or, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the name and email those services provide us) when you create an account.
Profile information: your general home location/area, used to set your default search radius.
Listing content: if you create a garage sale listing, the address, dates, times, categories, description, and any photos you upload.
Communications: reviews, ratings, and any comments you submit about sales you've attended or hosted.

1.2 Information collected automatically

Location data: your device's GPS location, used to show nearby sales, calculate distances, verify check-ins at a sale you're physically attending, and power route planning. You can decline location permission, but core features of the App will not work correctly without it.
Usage data: how you interact with the App — searches performed, listings favorited, screens visited — used to improve the App and power features like matching and interest counts.
Device information: device type, operating system, and a push notification token (if you enable notifications), used to deliver alerts about matching listings.

1.3 Information from purchases

If you subscribe to remove ads or purchase a listing "boost," the transaction itself is processed entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play — we do not receive or store your payment card details. We receive confirmation that a purchase was made and its status (active, expired, cancelled) through our billing partner, RevenueCat, so we can grant you the corresponding benefit (ad removal, listing visibility).

2. How We Use Your Information

To operate core App features: displaying nearby sales, route planning, matching your saved searches to new listings, and verifying check-ins
To send you push notifications about matching listings (only if you've enabled notifications and the relevant saved search)
To calculate and display aggregate, non-identifying signals like a listing's favorite count or a seller's average rating
To generate AI-assisted listing suggestions (title/description) when you choose to use that feature — the categories and any text you provide are sent to Anthropic's API solely to generate the suggestion, and are not stored by Anthropic beyond what's needed to process that request
To show relevant, non-personalized or limited-personalization advertising via Google AdMob (see Section 4)
To maintain the safety and integrity of the App — for example, reviewing reported listings or content

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. Advertising

Free-tier users see ads served through Google AdMob within the Discover feed. AdMob may use device identifiers and usage data to serve ads, subject to Google's own privacy practices. You can remove ads entirely with a paid subscription. We do not control AdMob's specific data practices beyond what Google's own policies govern — see Google's Privacy Policy for details.

5. Location Privacy — Address Reveal Timing

To protect seller safety, a sale's exact address is only shown to other users starting at midnight on the day of the sale (or immediately, if the seller explicitly opts in to earlier reveal). Before that time, only an approximate area is shown. This applies to how listing addresses are displayed to other users — it does not affect the location data we process to power the App's own features (like distance calculation).

6. Account & Data Deletion

To request deletion of your GarageHunt account and associated data:

In the App: go to Profile → Settings → Delete Account, or
By email: contact adambujold@gmail.com with the subject line "Account Deletion Request," using the email address associated with your account

Once verified, we will permanently delete your account and associated personal data — not deactivate or temporarily disable it — typically within 30 days. Some information may be retained in an anonymized or aggregated form (for example, a review you left may remain visible without being tied to your identity) to preserve the integrity of other users' data and for fraud-prevention purposes.

Other choices

Access/correction: you can view and edit most of your information directly in the App (profile, listings, saved searches).
Location permission: can be revoked at any time through your device's settings, though this will limit core App functionality.
Notifications: can be disabled in-app or through device settings.

7. Children's Privacy

GarageHunt is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

8. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the App's features. Listing data for ended sales is retained to support the review and reputation system. You may request deletion at any time (see Section 6).

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures (including encrypted connections and access controls through our infrastructure provider, Supabase) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when changes are made. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Delete Your Account and Data

To request deletion of your GarageHunt account and associated data, you do not need the app installed or to be logged in.

How to request deletion:

Include the email address associated with your GarageHunt account
We will confirm and process your deletion request within 30 days
