GarageHunt Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the GarageHunt mobile application (the "App"), operated by MELISSA BUJOLD. By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the App.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use GarageHunt. If you are under the age of majority in your province, you should have a parent or guardian's permission to use the App. GarageHunt is not directed at children under 13, consistent with our Privacy Policy.

2. Your Account

• You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account.
• You agree to provide accurate information (name, email, listing details) — impersonating someone else or creating fake accounts is not allowed.
• One account per person. Accounts are not transferable.
• You may delete your account at any time — see our Account Deletion page for how.

3. What GarageHunt Is — and Isn't

GarageHunt is a platform that helps people discover, list, and coordinate garage/yard sales. GarageHunt is not a party to any transaction between a buyer and a seller. We don't process payment for items sold at a garage sale (those happen in person, buyer to seller, however they agree) — we're not involved in, and don't guarantee, the condition, safety, legality, or accuracy of any item listed or any in-person transaction.

This is separate from purchases made within the App itself (the ad-free subscription or listing boosts) — those are real transactions, processed securely through Apple's App Store or Google Play, covered in Section 7 below.

4. Listings and Content You Provide

• You're responsible for the accuracy of any listing you create — address, dates, items, photos, and description.
• By posting content (listings, photos, reviews, descriptions), you grant GarageHunt a license to display, distribute, and use that content within the App and its promotion, for as long as your account/content exists on the platform.
• You confirm you have the right to post any photo or content you upload.
• No illegal items, no content that's fraudulent, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise violates the law or these Terms.

Address privacy

By default, your exact address is only shown to other users starting at midnight on the day of your sale. You may choose to reveal it immediately instead — if you do, you're explicitly acknowledging and accepting the reduced privacy that comes with that choice, as disclosed at the time you make it in the App.

5. Reviews, Ratings, and Check-Ins

• Reviews and ratings must be honest and based on a real interaction. Fake, retaliatory, or manipulated reviews are prohibited and may be removed.
• Check-ins are verified by your device's location at the time of check-in — attempting to falsify a check-in (e.g., spoofing your location) violates these Terms.
• Shopper tiers, seller ratings, and "Hot Listing" status are computed automatically from real user activity and are provided for informational purposes — GarageHunt doesn't guarantee their accuracy and may adjust the underlying thresholds or methodology at any time.

6. Community Organizers and Events

Verified organizers may create and manage town-wide sale events, including approving other sellers' requests to join. Organizer status is granted at GarageHunt's discretion and may be revoked for misuse. Organizers are responsible for the accuracy of the events they create.

7. Subscriptions and Purchases

• Ad-free subscription: a recurring, auto-renewing monthly charge, billed and managed through your Apple App Store or Google Play account. It renews automatically until you cancel through your device's subscription settings — GarageHunt cannot process cancellations directly.
• Listing boosts: a one-time purchase that features a specific listing for 48 hours. Boosts are non-refundable once applied.
• All in-app purchases are subject to Apple's and Google's own respective terms and refund policies, in addition to these Terms.
• Boosted status affects placement in Discover's default browse order only — it never affects match relevance in "I'm Looking For" results.

8. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

• Use the App for any illegal purpose or to list stolen, counterfeit, or illegal items
• Harass, threaten, or endanger another user
• Attempt to circumvent safety features (e.g., address privacy timing, check-in verification)
• Create fake listings, fake reviews, or manipulate favorite counts, check-ins, or ratings
• Scrape, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the App's normal operation
• Use another user's account without permission

Violating these Terms may result in content removal, account suspension, or termination, at GarageHunt's discretion.

9. Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. GARAGEHUNT DOES NOT GUARANTEE THE ACCURACY OF LISTINGS, THE CONDUCT OF OTHER USERS, OR THE SAFETY OF ANY IN-PERSON MEETING OR TRANSACTION ARISING FROM USE OF THE APP. YOU USE THE APP, AND MEET OTHER USERS, AT YOUR OWN RISK. We encourage meeting in visible areas, during the listed sale hours, and using good judgment — the same common sense you'd use at any in-person transaction with a stranger.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, GarageHunt and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, or from any interaction, transaction, or dispute with another user. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App is limited to the amount you paid us (if any) in the 12 months before the claim arose.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold GarageHunt harmless from any claim or damage arising from your use of the App, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

12. Termination

You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent or harmful conduct, or for any other reason at our reasonable discretion, with or without notice.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when changes are made. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles.
